South Chingford Foundation School

Transition

At South Chingford Foundation School, we understand that moving from primary to secondary school is a very important step in the life of a child and their family, and at times can feel daunting.

Therefore, we make every effort to make the transition period as easy and enjoyable as possible for both student and parents, by developing a programme of events that allows students to meet with their new peers and teachers, settle in and familiarise themselves with their new school environment, beginning long before their first day.

This programme of activities starts the moment your child is offered a place at South Chingford – here are some of the key features:

May and June

Visits to pupils in their primary schools and interviews with the Assistant Principal

June

Pupils are invited in for a Getting to Know You day at South Chingford Foundation School

Parent Forum 10 am-12pm with the Assistant Principal

Parent and pupil interviews led by our transition team 4 – 6pm

July

All pupils invited to the South Chingford Foundation School Summer School, led by our dedicated transition team

September

Early start for Year 7 students, allowing them to familiarise themselves with the school day ahead of term beginning.

We think that transition from primary to secondary school is vitally important and our Assistant Principal Sean Reed, is dedicated to transition, running each part of the process.

Once students join us, the transition programme extends further for those that need it most. Our Stepping Stones programme encompasses Saturday sessions at school, offering catch-up classes and enrichment experiences solely for our Year 7 cohort, alongside partnering with a Year 9 mentor to support students throughout the academic year.

Our entire school body is here to support your child as they embark on their new and exciting chapter in their education, help them to fulfil their potential and ensure they enjoy their experience at South Chingford. We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant, nurturing and inclusive school community soon.

I have enjoyed my first term at South Chingford so much! We have been introduced to so many new things, such as the Brilliant Club and new subjects – my favourite being languages. It has been a really enjoyable start to secondary school, and coming to visit the school before I joined, meeting my new teachers and classmates and getting to know my way around really helped with settling in. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
